It is every trout fisherman’s dream to catch a trophy trout. You most likely always imagine yourself pulling a beautiful huge trout out of the water while experiencing the greatest adrenaline rush ever. Afterwards, that feeling of pride runs through your whole body – and of course, you have certainly gained some well-deserved bragging rights.
Successful trophy trout fishing may not seem easy, but it definitely isn’t impossible. It can be disheartening at first, yes, especially when you do not experience success right away. But when you do, you cannot stop seeking for the thrill of it. Even the thought of it becomes exciting.
To help you on your trophy trout fishing trip, I have put together a few tips that will give you higher chances of success. Remember these tips and with the right amounts of effort and determination, you just might catch the largest trout ever seen.
Let’s start by talking about where the large trout are located. I know this is going to sound outrageous, but the bigger sized trout can actually be found where you think they’re not. Really, large trout can be found in heavily fished areas, but they are just not caught. Think about it – this is the reason they grow to their size, because they are being ignored.
And here’s more good news: the large trout are, to put it simply, lazy. They don’t move around much. Instead of looking and swimming around for food, they wait for food to come to them.
Which brings me to another tip: what do large trout like to eat? Well, large trout like, wait, they LOVE to eat crayfish. Make sure the crayfish are live, by the way, and about 2 inches max. What’s good about this bait is that you can even catch them yourself. Once you have some crayfish, use them in your search for that elusive trophy trout. This will surely attract them.
Last but not the least, use gang hooks. I always tell everyone to use gang hooks when going river trout fishing, lake trout fishing and all other kinds of trout fishing. This tip also holds true for trophy trout fishing. These are two hooks tied in tandem, and what’s great about gang hooks is that they give your bait a natural presentation. To put it in a nutshell, gang hooks will make your bait look the way they’re supposed to be when underwater.
I hope you’ll use the things I just told you on your next fishing trip. They’re very easy to follow, yes, but they’re proven to help you catch some trophy trout. If you do catch one, send me a picture of your trout! Maybe you’ll even become the next record holder, for all you know.
